Elisabeth Condon (born 1959, Los Angeles) creates paintings and works on paper that overlap natural and built environments through references to décor, abstraction, and scrolls. Linking the harmonious compositions in ink-and-brush painting with the wallpapers of her childhood home, Condon incorporates bird and flower motifs in paintings and public art works such as Urban Idyll, commissioned by MTA Art & Design Percent for Art for the NYCT Astoria-Ditmars Blvd. Station in Queens.

Condon's paintings are held in the collections of Perez Art Museum Miami, Tampa Museum of Art, United States Embassy Beijing, and numerous private collections throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. She is recipient of the Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters and Sculptors Grant, Pollock Krasner Foundation Grant, and Florida Individual Artist Fellowship. She has been Fellow at Swatch Art Peace Hotel Shanghai, UCross, Yaddo, and MacDowell.

Condon holds degrees from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago (MFA) and Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design, Los Angeles (BFA). She lives and works in New York, NY and Tampa, FL.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Pattern translates landscape in two dimensions, merging nature and décor. Pours of liquid color and pattern expose the dynamic between impulse and restraint in my working process. Each series of paintings inform the next, so that the work as a whole unfolds like a scroll as it develops over time. The paintings enfold house, garden, nightclub, and travel within sliver-thin layers that appear collaged. Each composition shifts between topography, window, and field, forming a world both real and artificial.
